Some readers will remember that surveys took place last year. The work included a minerals resource assessment to understand the quality of minerals present on site.
The land is subject to minerals safeguarding under Gloucestershire County Council's Minerals and Waste Policy.
The specialist team leading this work found that the small volume and poor quality of minerals on-site means any proposed development at Wisloe would not prevent the extraction of any valuable resources.
A separate geophysical survey, which allows the team to understand whether any archaeological remains may be present, also took place last year. The team is liaising with partners and stakeholders on the findings and will publish the report soon.
A Wisloe project spokesperson said: “These surveys are an important step in understanding the site. This is typically a very early stage for us to start this work. They provide us with technical detail on the make-up, quality, and quantity of resources and archaeology on-site, how they might be managed, and any considerations we must make should plans for Wisloe progress.
“It is important to state that both surveys are investigative exercises to inform future planning decisions.
“At this stage, no development work has begun. Any future development remains subject to obtaining the necessary planning permissions.”
You can find the minerals report here. We will share more details on the archaeology survey findings later this year.
