Planning inspectors receive positive update on proposed bridge for Wisloe

The Wisloe project team continues to engage collaboratively with inspectors leading the public examination into Stroud District Council's local plan, which aims to determine where homes and jobs will be based locally over the next 15 years.

The examination has run for more than a year, covering many aspects of the council's proposed local plan. As a proposed development of some 1,500 homes, Wisloe has featured in the public examination into the plan.

As part of the examination, we provided detailed information on costings for the proposed walking and cycling bridge across the M5 to connect Wisloe with nearby communities at Cam and Dursley.

This work, which is available online, shows that the project budget will meet costs for delivering the footbridge for the Wisloe development. National Highways has confirmed to us that the budget is in line with their expectations.

Providing a sustainable, connected community at Wisloe

Our proposal to provide a connecting footbridge at Wisloe is a key part of our ambitions to create a sustainable, high-quality development. We recognise that it's important to get the costs for this right.

We want to provide the M5 pedestrian bridge at a very early stage to support sustainable and low-carbon travel for people who live and work locally.

The information provided to inspectors forms part of the project team's wider work confirming financial information which underpins our commitment. The team discuss this work during the public examination into the local plan in 2023.

A project spokesperson said: "All developments of this nature are complex and take years to move forward. We have been clear on our commitment as a project to progress with a thorough, well-considered approach that responds to the challenges and opportunities highlighted throughout this process.

"This can be best seen in the work already done on the masterplan and the Design Code, both of which are readily available online and in local libraries.

"We continue to engage proactively with inspectors on the local plan, and with stakeholders on our ambitions for Wisloe."

The latest report on the bridge costs is available online.
