Local businesses and organisations gathered in Coaley on Tuesday 12 July for a special event to discuss the five hectares of new employment space that will be delivered as part of the proposals for Wisloe, a sustainable new community set in land east of Slimbridge.
The businesses and local organisations were the guests of the landowners of the Wisloe site, Gloucestershire-based national education charity The Ernest Cook Trust and Gloucestershire County Council, who are leading the proposals.
The Wisloe masterplan sets out a vision for new homes, employment spaces, a school and community areas surrounded by wildlife-rich landscape set on land between the A38 and the M5 east of Slimbridge.
The current masterplan features two new employment-focused areas, and the event was led by The Ernest Cook Trust and Gloucestershire County Council to help understand how this new employment space can help meet existing need in the local area.
A spokesperson for the Wisloe Project Team said:
“It was great to be able to talk to a range of organisations based locally, and consider together how the five hectares of new employment space which will be created as part of the Wisloe proposals can help meet the needs of the local businesses and residents.
“We are grateful to everyone who joined us for a really interesting discussion. We want to make sure that our plans for Wisloe are informed by what local people want and need, and understanding the needs of businesses already working in the area is central to that.”
The Wisloe Project Team are continuing to consult with local residents and organisations to help shape the masterplan for Wisloe. The Wisloe business event follows a street stall in Cam in May, a surgery event in Slimbridge in April and a public engagement event at Slimbridge AFC in March. Engagement will continue throughout the planning process.
